How to use this test
Learn the four choices
Use the labelled Red, Green, Blue and Yellow buttons, or keys 1–4. The displayed colour names follow the selected site language.
Choose the ink colour
Ignore the meaning of the large word. Select the colour it is printed in. Each new word appears after a brief blank gap, with no response deadline.
Compare accuracy and timing
Finish twenty choices. The run contains ten matching and ten conflicting words. Medians use correct responses only and are shown separately for the two groups.
What we check
Every ink colour appears five times across twenty shuffled trials. Half of the words match their ink colour and half conflict. Both trial order and the conflicting word choices change between runs.
Response time begins in the animation-frame callback that draws each word. An incorrect answer counts against accuracy and is excluded from timing summaries. A group with no correct responses shows no median. This implementation does not calculate a standardized interference score.
What this test can’t tell you
This is an informal practice game, not a clinical assessment or an IQ score. Familiarity, language, device and input method can affect your result.
Something not working?
I keep choosing the written word
Slow down and match the ink to the answer label. Accuracy matters as well as speed.
Two colours look similar
The ink colours have deliberately different hues, but colour perception and display settings still affect the task. Do not interpret difficulty distinguishing them as an attention result.
The number keys do not work
Keep focus inside the game. Use the top-row keys 1–4, or select the answer buttons directly.
Common questions
Is this a clinical Stroop assessment?
No. It is a short game inspired by the colour-word task. Its stimuli, timing and scoring are specific to this page.
Can I compare different languages?
Treat languages separately. Reading familiarity and the colour words themselves change the task.
Why is Yellow darker than a marker pen?
The yellow ink uses a darker ochre shade to remain readable against the light background. Select Yellow for that ink.
